An exciting 2014 calendar at Cornwall Motor Speedway!

Another great season awaits race fans and teams as several key events highlights the 2014 schedule at Cornwall Motor Speedway. The upcoming season will be one of transition as new owners and a new promoter will be in action.

The season will start with a bang on Sunday, May 18 as the first event of the Canadian Nationals in conjunction with the first event of the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series will be presented with a 100-lap feature race. The Mohawk Race Parts Pro-Stock series will also be on hand with a 40-lap event as all the regular classes will in competition on Minute Auto Wash night.

Four major events will be presented in June as we start the month with a DIRTcar Series Doubleheader involving the Sportsman and Pro-Stock series as each division will have a 50-lap event. A full race program is also on the card as Jiffy Auto Services will sponsor the evening.

The Go Nuclear Late Model Series will make a first appearance at Cornwall on June 8th, this series has been growing significantly over the last few series and will visit the speedway with a solid group of cars presented by Paul’s Auto Body.

On June 22nd, Seaway GM will present a double dose of Modified racing as they will have two 40-lap events along with a complete race program

The Super DIRTcar Big Block Series will close out the month of June with their annual trip at Cornwall. In 2013, a record total of 58 drivers had made the haul to Cornwall in attempt to qualify for the 100-lap feature race. Mel Valade Backhoe Services will sponsor this event.

The World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Series is back again! Please mark your calendar for Sunday, July 27 as TwinLeaf Stores will host the best sprint car drivers in the world as we will make a final salute to the “King of the Outlaws“ Steve Kinser. The Modifieds and the Lightning Sprints will be sharing the spotlight.

Jiffy Auto Services will host the second series race of the Canadian Nationals with a 100-lap event on August 3rd with the Pro-Stock, Semi-Pro and Mini-Stock in action.

The Triple Crown event presented by Jiffy Auto Services will close out the regular season on Sunday, August 31st with the final round of the Canadian Nationals for Modifieds along with a DIRTcar 358-Modified series race all part of the 125-lap finale. The Mohawk Race Parts Pro-Stock Series and Seaway/Lussier Chevrolet GM Performance Sportsman Series will come to a close as we will determine 2014 champions.

The season will end with the annual Fireball Enduro on Sunday, September 7.

The arrival of new owners in Raymond and Jacques Lavergne along with a new promoter in Graham Gorman will bring a boost to Cornwall. The new management team has several projects in mind but his looking at 2014 as a learning opportunity for everyone.

Une autre excellente saison attend les amateurs et les coureurs alors que plusieurs évènements de qualité font partie de la cédule 2014 du Cornwall Motor Speedway. La prochaine saison en sera une de transition alors que des nouveaux propriétaires et un nouveau promoteur seront à la barre de la piste.

La saison débutera en force alors que le dimanche 18 mai, la première manche de la série Canadian Nationals en collaboration avec la première épreuve de la série DIRTcar 358-Modifié sera présenté avec une finale de 100 tours. La série Pro-Stock Mohawk Race Parts sera aussi sur place avec une finale de 40 tours en plus d’un programme complet dans les autres catégories régulières, le tout présenté par Minute Auto Wash.

Quatre évènements majeurs seront présentés au cours du mois de juin en débutant avec la présence de 2 séries DIRTcar le 1er juin prochain. Les Sportsman et Pro-Stock auront respectivement une finale de 50 tours à l’horaire en plus d’un programme complet offert par Jiffy Auto Services.

La série Go Nuclear Late Model effectuera une première visite à Cornwall. Cette série a connu une énorme expansion au cours des dernières saisons et on s’attend à voir un solide peloton de voitures sera présent pour cette soirée commanditée par Paul`s Auto Body.

Le 22 juin, Seaway GM présentera 2 finales de 40 tours en Modifié en plus d’un programme complet dans les autres catégories.

La série gros-blocs Super DIRTcar viendra compléter le mois de juin avec sa visite annuelle à Cornwall. En 2013, un total record de 58 voitures était présent pour tenter de se qualifier pour la finale de 100 tours. Mel Valade Backhoe Services commanditera un des évènements majeurs de 2014.

Veuillez ajouter cette soirée à votre calendrier alors que Twin Leaf Stores va acceuillir les meilleurs coureurs sprint car au monde alors que le “le roi des Outlaws“ Steve Kinser effectue un dernier tour de piste en 2014. Les Modifiés et Lightning Sprints, seront aussi de la partie.

Jiffy Auto Services sera l’hôte de la 2e manche de la série Canadian Nationals avec une finale de 100 tours présentée le 3 août prochain en compagnie des Pro-Stock, Semi-Pro et Mini-Stock.

La triple couronne présentée par Jiffy Auto Services viendra compléter la saison régulière dimanche le 31 août prochain avec la dernière manche de la série Canadian Nationals en conjoncture avec la série DIRTcar 358-Modifié pour une finale de 125 tours. La série Mohawk Race Parts en Pro-Stock et également la série Sportsman Seaway/Lussier Chevrolet GM Performance, seront complétés alors que l’on connaîtra les champions 2014.

La saison se terminera avec l’Enduro Fireball, dimanche le 7 septembre.

L’arrivée de nouveaux propriétaires en Raymond et Jacques Lavergne ainsi que d’un nouveau promoteur en Graham Gorman donnera un vent de fraicheur à Cornwall. La nouvelle équipe de gestion a plusieurs projets en tête mais elle voit le prochain été comme un d’apprentissage.

Cornwall Speedway Celebrates 2013 Champions

The Cornwall Motor Speedway held his 2013 Banquet of champion at the beautiful South Stormont Community Hall this past Saturday, April 5 as a room full of guests gathered to celebrate and rememorize last year’s events. The night had also a special feel as honored promoter Ron Morin’s retirement after 33 years as the speedway owner.

Mario Clair left the banquet with hands full of new and shiny trophies. Clair had a stellar year at Cornwall in 2013, winning his first Jiffy Auto Service Modified Championship and also capturing the Doiron Engineering Cup Heat Championship. Stephane Lafrance had a great season finishing second to Clair in the points title and also second in the Canadian Nationals Series behind Brian McDonald who also finished fifth in the points race. Another year and another third place for Chris Raabe along with a strong second in the Doiron Cup. Kayle Robidoux was also a good contender all year long as he finished fourth in the points chase and rounding out the top 3 in the heats championship. Steve Bernard was also recognized as he finished third in the Canadian Nationals. Gilles Godard was named the Rookie of the year.

In the Alexandria Home Hardware Pro Stock division, Dave Bissonnette won over Rock Aubin, Jocelyn Roy, George Renaud, Ghislain Valade and CD Beauchamp. Stephane Lebrun won the Mohawk Race Parts Series in front of Aubin, Roy and Stephane Lemire. Bissonnette also won the new heat championship sponsored by RSI Industrial Supply in front of Renaud and Roy.

Joey Ladouceur made a splash in his first year in the Tracy Wheeler Storm Realty Sportsman division by winning the championship over Corey Wheeler, Chris Herbison, Mitch Primeau, Jessica Power and Louie Jackson JR. Mathieu Desjardins won the Seaway GM & Performance Sportsman Series over Shane Pecore and Martin Pelletier.

Steve Billings, was named the 2013 champion in the Evans Bus Lines Semi-Pro division winning this title after running in the Sportsman class for several seasons. Kevin Fetterly jr and Derek Cryderman rounded out the top 3.

In the Mini Stock Division, Mike Gaucher won the title by a close margin in front of Danny Lefebvre and Justin Desrosiers.

The Baxtrom`s Independant Grocer Rookie of the award went to Gilles Godard in the Modifieds, Joey Ladouceur in the Sportsman, Eli Gilbert in the Pro-Stock, Anthony Perron in the Semi-Pro and Marc Reggentin in the Mini-Stock.

The Mitch Jock Memorial Merit Award went to the Plantagenet High School for the program led by Pro-Stock runner Marc Lalonde in which student are involved in every part of a race team but have also kept several teenagers in school over the course of the last nine year of the program.

Lalonde was also the first recipient of the Ron Morin Sportsmanship Award for his respect with other race teams and drivers along with being courteous with officials even when arguing a decision. He is also a self appointed ambassador for the speedway and the racing community.

This event ended the celebration of 2013, it was also the end of the 33-year reign of Ron Morin as the Cornwall Motor Speedway promoter. Morin received several gifts including a nice toolbox courtesy of Benson Auto Parts.

New promoter Graham Gorman talked to the guest about the upcoming season as it will be a transition for everyone as the Lavergne family, new owners of the speedway will be in a learning curve.

We are now looking forward to the Sunday, May 18th opening night with the first series race of the Gaetan Chip Stand Modified Canadian Nationals, a 100-lap event also counting toward the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series. The first race of the Mohawk Race Parts Pro-Stock series will also be on hand with a 40-lap feature. The Sportsman, Semi-Pro and Mini-Stock, are also on the card for that great night of racing.
