Donny Schatz World of Outlaws winner at Cornwall Motor Speedway!
Cornwall, Ont – Sunday, July 27, 2014 – Martin Bélanger – The greatest show on DIRT was in town tonight as the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series was at Cornwall Motor Speedway on Twinleaf Stores as the Lightning Sprints were also at the speedway along with the Modified and Sportsman.
Kerry Madsen led the way in the 40-lap World of Outlaws Sprint Car feature as Donny Schatz and Paul McMahan were behind the leader. Madsen quickly got to the slower cars as Cody Darrah slowed the field down stopping in turn 4 on lap 6. Madsen to the lead as Schatz was pushing hard behind him, Schatz used the inside lane to pass Madsen on lap 10. April Wilson stopped in turn 4 and yellow was out on lap 14. Schatz built himself a good lead over Madsen as the feature got to the halfway point. Schatz still the leader and in heavy traffic as David Gravel made his way to third. A final caution occurred with 1 lap to go for Kyle Fraser. Schatz led the way and won his 11th feature of the season on the tour over Madsen and Logan Schuhart who surprised David Gravel on that final restart.
Gabriel Richer led the way in the 30-lap Jiffy Auto Service Modified Series as Chris Herbison was behind him. Herbison used the high lane to pass Richer on lap 5 as Carey Terrance was running strong in third. Terrance used the same lane to pass Richer for second on lap 8. Terrance was on the back bumper of Herbison with Chris Raabe now running in third. Herbison and Terrance raced side by side with only 10 laps to go. Terrance took over the lead on lap 21 as Raabe was now close to the leaders. Raabe found a nice groove on the top but a lap car slowed him down and Terrance went on to win his third event of the season.
In the Wheeler-Forget 20-lap Sportsman feature, Brianna Ladouceur led the way over Mitch Primeau and Louie Jackson. Ladouceur led the first 4 laps as Jackson made his way to the top spot as Dillon Sallows was now in second as the first caution came on lap 8. Jackson was still the leader as Shane Pecore who started 13th was now in contention for the lead at the halfway point. On a lap 10 restart, Jackson was able to resist a charge from Pecore as Corey Wheeler was now in third spot. Jackson made a slight error and Pecore was able to pass him. Pecore never looked back and won his third event of the season in front of Jackson and Wheeler.
The Lightning Sprint was the first of the speedway with a 20-lap affair. On the initial green, Alex Vigneault landed on his roof in front of the grandstand and red flag was out. Vigneault was ok. Guillaume Nedeirer was the early leader over Jordan Poirier and Eric Sundborg. Nedeirer led the entire event and won over Sundborg and Mathieu Bourgouin who started back in the field.
Next week the Modified will have the spotlight with a 100-lap event part of the Canadian Nationals.
